Xuan is a new media artist, filmmaker, and pianist working at the intersection of music and visual art. Her work focuses on the distinct interconnectivity between sound and image, and often takes shape in the form of live audio-visual collaborations with new music ensembles and living composers.
She has worked with artists such as Glenn Kotche, Pierre Jodlowski, Michael Burritt, Gemma Peacocke, Third Coast Percussion, Nois Quartet, and Ensemble Garage, which have led to performances in venues such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the MCA Chicago, the Smithsonian Institution, University of South Carolina, Carnegie Mellon University, Constellation, SF Jazz, Le Poisson Rouge, and the Indie Grits Film Festival.
In the summer of 2018, she was invited to attend the Eighth Blackbird Creative Lab as their first production fellow, where she formed cross-media improv trio, Chaos Hands, with Melbourne-based sound artist Allison Wright and Detroit/NYC drummer/percussionist Nicole Patrick. Xuan is also one half of Earsight Duo with Chicago-based percussionist Peter Ferry; a percussion, video and piano duo focused on interdisciplinary performance and innovative sound art projects.
Xuan is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and has subsequently taught experimental filmmaking there as an Adjunct Professor of Humanities from 2016-2018. She is currently pursuing a M.A. in Media Spaces at the BTK University of Art and Design in Berlin, with a focus on art and technology. Her first interactive installation “Setting the Tone” was exhibited at gallery ErsterErster in Berlin in January 2019.
